I am having some trouble putting together the Green Tree from Timeless Treasures. The curved pieces just don’t seem to fit. Any one have any suggestions? Thanks, Anasu

Hi Anasu,
The main thing I can think of that could cause you problems with the curved pieces is if, when you printed out the PDF, the page was shrunk to fit the paper. That is often the default for printing out that kind of file. You can tell if there’s a problem with that by measuring the template from top to bottom, If it measures anything less than 8 1/2″, it is too small. If that is the case, go back and download again and when it is time to print out the file, look at the options in your PDF program. Mine says something about size-choose 100%; yours could say”shrinkage” – choose NONE. The point being that somewhere on the window, there will be the option to keep it the original size, and that’s what you need.

If you have already cut from the small template, you might be able to fudge a bit and make that bias edge work for you, so all is not lost. Sometimes bias can be your friend!

If your template is already cut to the right size, and your other cutting is accurate, (or even if it isn’t) try looking over this little tutorial: Easy Curved Piecing http://www.cherylmalkowski.com/blog/?p=6. It’s important to make sure you can still see your bottom fabric below the top one as you’re stitching, (sometimes they want to slip out!) and when you have curves as in this Green Tea project, put the concave piece on the top while stitching. Also, make sure your seam allowance is at or just below 1/4″. Try not to pull or stretch the fabric. The pieces should fit perfectly if the raw edges are even and the center and ends are matched up. You might be more comfortable with more pins since everyone’s process is different. I’m not an avid pinner, so I just match the beginning, overlapping that point as much as I need to for it to make a straight edge, pin the center and hold onto the last end once I’ve reached the middle.

Thanks for the info. I figured it out, the trick is to ease the pieces together, I was trying to fit them without easing. But I have the first row completed and am working on the second. It is going good so far;) Thanks again. Anna Trunck

So happy it’s working out for you! I’ve designed a lot of quilts for Timeless Treasures, but this one is probably my favorite. LOVE the colors, love the waves… One of the few that I felt the need to make an extra for my own use! Enjoy!
